Conspiracy Theories: HAARP

Nikola Tesla proposed that one day, man would be able to control the weather. In the late 1980s, a U.S. government program may have set out to investigate that concept. A mysterious research center in Alaska repeatedly switched hands at the end of the 20th century.

Many wondered if it was possible this was merely a cover-up for technologies being developed there…that have since been linked to multiple “natural” disasters.

In 2010, Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez publicly claimed that HAARP triggered the Haiti earthquake. While this theory is written off as little more than a hoax, projects with secret codenames executed by the U.S. Department of Defense tell a different story.

Written for Parcast, Spotify’s Conspiracy Theories, this episode offers a comprehensive overview of HAARP’s known history, allusions to its suspicious activities, and various versions of the theory — both the preposterous and possible.
